Philosophy and psychology are subjective disciplines and in general these are intuitive, not quantitative sciences. Physics is both subjective (theoretical) and objective (experimentally verifiable) sciences. If a scientific observation is supported by verifiable data then it is a fact, if not then it is a theory. Unlike psychology and social studies, etc principles of physics and physical sciences are experimentally verifiable. Temples, Toilets & Minority Politics

We as a people have a weakness in that we look for idols in our leaders and put them on a pedestal. An idol’s word is gospel; his actions are above reproach. After all, ‘A Caesar can do no wrong!’ An idol’s actions never, ever come under scrutiny. His actions are always explained away with altruistic motives. Calling an idol’s actions into question is blasphemy.    When a society treats a leader as an idol, all criticism is blanked out. The feedback mechanism is disabled. A leader who is blindly worshipped becomes blind to public opinion. It is not in the public interest. A leader’s belief in his infallibility gives way to a certain conceit. As the leader comes to dislike criticism, his followers automatically screen it from him. It lays … Read entire article »

Peace in South Asia 911

Three 9/11 dates are memorable for peace and war. First 9/11: Swami Vivekananda presented Vedanta philosophy at the first-ever Parliament of World Religions opened on September 11, 1893, in Chicago Second 9/11:  Mahatma Gandhi adopted Satyagraha (Truth Force or Soul Force) in South Africa on September 11, 1906, as the only justifiable peaceful resistance method of achieving humane and just objectives. Third 9/11 stands for the unforgettable Tuesday in September 2001 for horrific terror attacks on New York and other places in the United States.   Peace leads to peace and war to more war. Al Qaeda attacks on the US led to the US War on Terrorism (WOT in Afghanistan-Pakistan, 2001 – present). Swami Vivekananda presented a memorable message for global peace based on Vedanta and the Satyagraha movement was first-ever peaceful struggle for independence of the British India from the … Read entire article »

Why should a secular nation have minority reservations?

Thanks to the Congress party’s unrelenting pursuit of vote bank politics the issue of reservations for minorities in jobs and educational institutions is back in the news. Designed as a ploy to regain a foothold in UP (as a key to capturing power at the centre in 2014), it carved out a 4.5% sub-quota for minorities (primarily Muslims) in the 27% reservation provided for OBCs. In its vulgar greed to capture power at any cost it conveniently forgot the sequence of events, beginning with the creation of separate electorates based on religious lines in the 1930s, which eventually led to the partition of the country. The creation of separate electorates was precisely based on the same logic and for the same reasons that the government now seeks to create reservations for Muslims. As … Read entire article »

Economies and Political Ideologies of Democratic vs Welfare States

The article focuses on economic impacts of the political ideologies used by Muslim welfare states and market economies of constitutional democratic capitalist nations. It suggests that recent actions of TTP (Tehrik-Taliban-Pakistan), TMQ (Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran headed by Dr Muhammad Tahirul Qadri or TQ), the army and political establishment may be contributing to internal destabilization of PK (Pakistan). The destabilization may be detrimental to on-going peace process in South Asia. The following topics are presented. Rocky Peace Process Youth in Welfare States Welfare States Economy and Institutions Dynamic and Static Political Ideologies References and notes: star (*) means see references and notes   Rocky Peace Process  The killing of Pakistan and India soldiers starting Jan 6, 2013 on both sides of LoC is fueling war hysteria in South Asia and making it harder for the peace process to remain on tracks. Islamic Ruling on Apostasy

Following is an excerpt taken from an Islamic site, which gives the ruling on apostasy. This excerpt is based on Quran, Hadiths and the saying of Islamic scholars. Bold emphasis is ours. What is the ruling on the apostate? If a Muslim apostatizes and meets the conditions of apostasy – i.e., he is of sound mind, an adult and does that of his own free will – then his blood may be shed with impunity. He is to be executed by the Muslim ruler or by his deputy – such as the qaadi or judge, and he is not to not be washed (after death, in preparation for burial), the funeral prayer is not to be offered for him and he is not to be buried with the Muslims. The evidence that … Read entire article »

Peaceful Verses of Qur’an.

Many Muslims as well as Non-Muslims quote some verses from Qur’an which preaches peace, and Non-Violence, while discussing Violent teaching of Islam. These people simply copy-paste from some Islamic site, which is very desperate to prove Islam is a Peaceful Religion. In this article I’ll show the real meaning of those so-called peaceful verses, using their context and the reason behind the revelation of that verse. But let us see first, what mainly Islamic sites say about Qur’an and Peace. “Islam as a religion is totally committed to peace and security. It views with great contempt, breach of peace, anarchy, rioting and terrorism. Muslims as Ummah are a peace-loving community. Jehad under Islam is allowed subject to certain conditions.” One another site says, “The very word ‘Islam’ (from the Arabic silm) connotes peace. According … Read entire article »
